Large Cast Iron Mitre Gauge - Am I dreaming??
Hi all,
Just casting my net. This is one of those needle in a hay stack searches, but given I don't have one on my table saw, someone must have one floating around in a workshop. I am looking for an old cast iron Mitre Gauge to suit a Stenner table saw I have restored https://www.woodworkforums.com/f163/s...ration-157563/
The actual bar for the gauge is not an issue, as it is a dovetail design, so I would likely need to replace it anyway, and I am not expecting to find an actual Stenner one, so interested in one from any brand of saw that would suit. The main concern is that it fits the style of the saw, which is a 1955 saw, I know I could add a new mitre gauge, but I am hoping someone might have an old one laying around not being used.
I am happy to pay for it, and obviously price would depend on condition and style. Perhaps your workshop once had a Robinson ET/E, Wadkin PK or PP, etc, etc. and the mitre got left behind, and it's been sitting in a draw for a few years doing nothing (I know I am probably dreaming, but you have to have hope right).
Anyway, if anyone can help, please get in touch and it would be greatly appreciated!!
Cheers,
Camo

Hi Camo,
Good luck finding the part you need. If you can't find what you're after surely between the foundry guy's and the exceptional wood skill's here on this site you could get a pattern made (or make yourself) to suit you're needs (I would be happy to help with the pattern making side if needed) and get one cast. Just a suggestion if all else fail's.
Regards Rod.

Rod,
Yeh, definitely a good option, and I think I would enjoy going down that road. I know ultimately this will be something I will need to do for the missing quadrant. I am mainly hoping I can find one, as it's the faster option. This has now become my primary saw so I am trying to get up and running, plus I guess saving a gauge from ultimately getting scrapped would be a good thing.
Cheers,

Cam,
If you want to get one cast we are using a local iron foundry for the Ewheels.
I am a bit busy currently but a pattern would be pretty straightforward if you can get decent drawing or better still a sample.
If you can get a loan of one you can superglue ply on for machining and contraction and bog any holes a lot of foundries will cast off this.

Go the foundry option, and make me one while your there.
Seriously, they are a most sought after item, you could even start a little side business.
I'll machine them for you.Last edited by Barterbuilt; 9th February 2014 at 08:36 AM. Reason: add machining option

A couple of leads. One member who may have a LS Barker one, but he is away for a few weeks, and will need to see if he can find it. One other member has access to a Wadkin PK mitre, and will be gathering some details for me soon. I know I will ultimately go down the path of casting, but am hoping it is with the quadrant, when I can justify the budget, but I am going to start looking into what the costs actually are. Machining is another daunting part of the process for me, so I could definitely use the help with that.
Cheers,
