    Default Build logs

Do any of you out there use build logs to keep track of time, materials and money during a project. If so how? Excel? Paper? I am researching for a doll house build which is more of a miniature than a toy so thought it might be a good idea.

I keep a build log for everything I do in both my garages. Not only to keep track of hours and money, but also for the fact that sometimes I am away for a month or so and forget where I was before. I just use a spiral notebook at each garage. I put the date, time spent, what I did and the daily temp. I have one for scale models, one for shop builds, and one for the 64' Chevy truck I am restoring. I also keep my receipts separated in manilla folders underneath the notebook.

For instance my big garage I have a log for the 64' truck and I can note anything I might forget, like what side is done, anything special I had to do to take something apart.
I also am still outfitting the big garage so I keep track of the electrical and any build supplies I might need.

The garage at home I keep the log for scale models and also any general woodworking builds I am doing in my woodshop. I can grab a pic after work if you like. I have found the logs to be very useful as I tend to forget things with so much going on around here.

Thanks Bret - the use as a reminder as to where you're up to is a good especially for me as there are large gaps between shed times on occasions. I also like the idea of using it as a place to keep ideas on future approaches.

The purchase of a couple of notebooks (paper ones) looks like a plan.

    Cheers
