VERY small milling query

Im of limited means, but a scrounger, and managed to source a number of logs that are bigger than my bandsaws capacities (only a little 14" old Chinese one).

I cut a few logs by hand using my Japanese Ryoba, which did a wonderful job, but golly did I sweat. Hard hard work.

Is cutting logs with a bushmans saw do-able? Is there the equivelant of a small lumberjacks two handed saw? Or, is it easier to find a moderately priced chainsaw....very moderate!

If it is straight grained and not too long could you split them with a froe or axe ? Then clean up with a plane

Unless you grew up with using a lumberjack saw or are prepared to put a few months into training bush/hand/sawing, this will be exhausting.

14" logs need at least a 20" chainsaw bar which is about a 50 cc saw.
Plus you will need some sort of mill but these can be as simple as this


a 50 cc chainsaw will be fine for occasional milling provided you take it easy and like any tool a significant reduction of effort will be alleviated by quality sharpening of the cutting edge.
Sharpening chainsaws is a big topic but lets see if you can get a saw before we worry about sharpening.

Many a cheap chainsaw are available, but always better to have a good one. Have you tried your local woodworking/wood turning club, they often have chainsaws and bigger bandsaws available.
