A great bench, chook, and great explanation. Very much like the light track and the split down the middle.
I shall never build another but admire you and your bench.

There is also a JPEG converter built into SketchUp 2013. Logic is FILE ==> EXPORT ==> 2D GRAPHIC. Then select "Export Type" as JPEG.
Unfortunately, both JPEG and PDF give 2D images and you lose the marvellous flexibility and the view from any angle feature of SketchUp. Wouldn't it be great if we could post SketchUp files - files that the more insightful members could edit to produce what I really intended to design.
Does anyone know if there is some way of making SketchUp files accessible to forumites??

Chook,
A big sturdy bench you got there. Nothing wrong with pine either. I used it for my bench top after seeing some on line and I had just scored some for free. My Dad and Grandad had pine benches and they were carpenters. I guess oak and beech were for money making projects.
I also agree that a woodworker should build his own bench. You get the bench you want at a reasonable cost and it is customised to suit your work style. Plus what you learn along the way. Anyhow enjoy making stuff on on it.
Regards
John

There are any number of ways to do it, some more feasible than others. The easiest from the users P.O.V is for the admins to allow sketchup files, but thats not the greatest for security reasons. You could rename the file on your computer to <insert file name here>.jpg instead of <insert file name here>.skp and upload them, then rename back to the original, and bobs your uncle. Best way for all concerned is probably to find a website that already hosts files, upload to there, then link to here. Something like dropbox should work, or maybe google docs. Im pretty sure you can set up dropbox so that only the admin can delete files, but anyone can upload them. Of course, you are going to run into space issues fairly quickly.

Sketchup has it's own sharing site called 3d Warehouse.
You can see other examples here:
Workbench Collection from www.workbenchdesign.net by timcel - 3D Warehouse
I'm sure yours would look good amongst them.
