Blades for cutting 1 Inch Thick Hardwood
Hi Guys,
I'm not a scroller but am looking at cutting some saw handles from various hard woods which are 1" thick. Wondering what sort of blades I should be looking at for that?
Also has anyone tried cutting 4mm brass?? Again if so what sort of blades?
Scrollsaw I'll be using is the generic version of the Hegner.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

I was running Flying Dutchman XL's, they are a skip tooth pattern, in a size 7 last week at the saw workshop, they seemed to cope ok so long as I didn't try to rush the cut

I would advise the F/Ds polar blades, probably #7. With the saw on the long stroke. I have used these and found them excellent on thick timber. They are fairly aggresive so make sure you have a firm hold on the timber. lol. Also they are not reverse so a fair bit of sanding will be needed.I have cut brass so I can't advise on that but I have heard there are some excellent metal cutting blades.

I find that if I push the wood too hard, the cut will came out with a vertical angle, so you need to just let the blade cut trough at its own pace. I actually don't like cutting hard wood that thick any more because I think it kncks my machine around too much. I have an old GMC that I can use for that. The blades can be sourced from Helen Harris in South Australia.

I don't have the Harris address, but if you look it up here on the forums, they will send you a list of blades, which will tell you how many T.P.I. each blade is.
