for the price of that log you could buy a fair few slabs from the same mob, and have half the import problems

This was the reason why I suggested sawing it up in the first place. Its not only the bark you will have trouble with, any voids or cracks are also going to be a no no. If the log is dry sawing wont cause surface checking. Don't dress the timber as this may cause surface cracks.
