    Default 4 Big Blokes.

    Hi All,
I have been to The Royal Geelong Agricultural Show, Vic. today.
Returning to my Wagon, I see a car with Blinking Lights & something like a fruit can on the Passenger Side on an angle. A Camera of course.
They were going up & down the Isles in the Car Park.
Then I see the markings on the Car. " Sheriff "
Yeah, they were susin out all the Unregistered Cars. Most likely got a few.
So I head for the gate to the road, look to the left, & blow me down, there is another one, then turned into the other Car Park.
I'm thinking they wood get a few more than the 1st. Car, as the 1st. one was the Members Car Park, & the other one was for the rest of us.
Sneaky Devils?, but most likely a good idea.
    Regards,
    issatree.

I know someone who doesn't have his car registered from down the Bellarine Peninsula. Drives it always, and has been caught more than once or twice.

Off he goes to court, and he wins all the time!

Apparently, legally, registration is only required if the vehicle is used for commercial purposes.

Just for the record, he also does not have a driving license, and as above he wins. It pays to know the law apparently.

As an aside, he heads up the local 'Community Law Resource Group' teaching the actual law.

Sheriffs do not have anything to do with rego. They are using ANPR (Automatic number plate recognition) to identify vehicles owned by people with outstanding warrants for unpaid fines. if one alerts, they attach a wheel clamp and you can have your car back once you pay off your warrants.

Cava. I would not believe a single word that bloke tells you, he is full of poo. No doubt he teaches his version of the law, which by the sound of it, is utterly wrong.
Is there anything easier done than said?

Known him for circa 10 years, and have seen what he has done and the results.

I have also spoken to some who have been to court with him.

Now it must be stated, that there is a hassel factor with what he does, and it is not for me.

Frequently see the number plate recog cameras set up in the outer eastern suburbs. There are a number of government agencies in a conga line waiting for anyone snared by the camera. They really love setting up Friday arvo before a long weekend, when there's plenty of traffic heading off for a holiday. One camera in the median strip can cope with two or three lanes of traffic travelling at 60 -80 kph, identify vehicles of interest and alert cops 200m up the road to flag them in.

Police - unregisterd vehicle, unlicenced drivers or drivers with suspended licences, recidivist drink/drug drivers, recorded petrol drive offs, stolen cars and number plates etc.

Sheriff - outstanding warants and fines, in the paper a couple of weeks ago they mentioned that one blitz netted $300,000 in outstanding fines in a couple of hours, including one person with $88,000 worth of outstanding fines.

Customs and Immigration - illegal immigrant workers travelling in mini bus loads to work on farms, people suspected of transporting chop chop (non excised tobacco) and other goods where revenue is being denied.

Think I saw some with ATO vests a while ago as well, possibly interested in illegals or people with substantial outstanding tax bills.

Out here a three hour sesion can fill a bus with illegals and end up with up to 20 vehicles seized. Last one I came across, the had comandeered about 20% of the Bunnings car park as a proccessing area. When they started up they were satisfied with about 300m of service road, but they quickly outgrew tha

If you are not a motorist you have to be convicted of a crime to get a number like every car has to wear.

    Default More Again.

    Hi Again,
A friend who lives close to those Show Grounds, reckoned it was rather funny to see all these can, sitting in the car park, all with Clamps on their Wheels.
So they certainly got a few.

A friend in NSW was telling about the vehicle recognition thing. The best thing to my mind is the abolition of the rego label. I hate having to scrape and clan the windscreen in preparation for the replacement.

Big Brother reality? It hasn't reached QLD yet .

QLD rego labels for vehicles up to 4.5t are due to be phased out by October 2104. They are already using the vehicle recognition system in QLD. I think the only labels remaining will be marine labels and over 4.5t vehicles.

If that were true, some smart law firm would have started a class action to get back the untold billions wrongly paid to the government over the past 100 years.

Also what happens to the other poor bugger if an unlicensed driver in an unregistered car is involved in an accident. There is no way an insurance company would cover someone without a licence.
