I have heard the issues during the wars are not only thinner (paper supplies were restricted) but that they dealt with repairs from scarce resources and even feature plans for bomb shelters.

Was looking at the 1940 one last night and it had a gas-proof dog kennel and a black-out torch to make.

We had a dog, many years ago, that was famous for its production of gas. If we'd built it a gas-proof dog kennel, she would have asphyxiated.

She once ate a kilo of glazing putty (the old linseed oil type) and her output that night was so offensive she got up, turned around as if to say "where the hell did that come from?", and let herself out the back door without us having to say anything (we were still gasping and flailing).
