    Default Jason from the U.K.

    Hello,

Im new here, im Jason from east yorkshire, England.
Im going to try building guitars as a hobby. Ive had very little experience.
Ive had quite a few guitars but never end up playing them very often, I had bass guitar lessons for a while and became reaonable I suppose but then just put the bass down and didnt pick it up again for ages?
If im honest i like owning guitars rather than playing them, I suppose like an art collector doesnt have to be able to paint !!!

I always wanted to own an Eccleshall 335 bass (like hooky from new order and simon gallup from the cure) but the £3500 was waaaaayyyy out of my league so hence the i might try and build one? im gonna start with a tele type guitar i think and progress from there. shaping the necks the scary part for me but it must be down to practice?

    well here i am,hello all !

    Jason

    Firstly welcome to these forums.

It sounds like you have sets your sights high, which is a good thing.
You may not like to hear this, but my suggestion to people starting from scratch is to see if they can successfully put together a kit guitar.
    a) it will be a lot easier than starting from complete scratch
    b) the parts in a kit guitar will much cheaper than the price of the cost of the individual components
    c) You will learn an enormous amount from doing this, a lot more than you think.
    d) You chances of ending up with something that sounds half decent are much improved
    e) The kit vendor will usually help out with any problems with any problems so you are not entirely on your own

The amount you will learn and save will well and truly outweigh the mistakes and problems that will happen if you try and build your masterpiece on your first attempt.

    Default thanks

thanks for the welcomes and thanks for the advice, I think I will have a look and see about some guitar kits to get a feel for how they go together.

    thanks again
