While I'm on a roll..............
Bunnings tells me to photocopy all receipts because of the need to have a readable
copy in case of a warranty claim.
We all know the originals fade badly and rapidly!!
Why is it not incumbent on the business to provide receipts that are clear, legible and fade proof??
If Mitre 10 does it...............

I scan my receipts. That way I can find them when needed.

If you keep those thermal receipts in your wallet to long they fade to nothing.
But I'm meant to keep the receipts not just for warranty but for tax reasons,
and I'm meant to be able to supply the tax man with receipts going back 7 years.
No way they last that long.
And the tax man does not accept reproductions, No digital photo's, no scans, they want the ORIGINAL.

Maybe its a giant plot by the companies to avoid warranty claims.
If it fades and they want the original then no warranty is good for more than a year.
They can give 3, 5 or 10 year warranties but it's realistically 1 year as the receipt is gone by then.
Bit like those dissolving socks we all buy.
2 months after you buy them one dissolves in the wash so you only have 1 left and have to go buy more.
Am I getting paranoid?

Lateral thinking required here, Bunnings want you to buy the paper for photo copy from Coles................um, both owned by Wesfarmers....commercial conspiracy theory
The person who never made a mistake never made anything

Time is on my side version. Keep a handful of their receipts the more faded the better. When you need to take a tool back under warranty, write in biro on the bottom, drill or saw or whatever is required. Give this to the shop and tell them it is the original receipt supplied by them and if they have issues then ask for management or ask for them to clarify with consumer affairs.
OR take a photo of the receipt with your phone when you purchase item.
credit card statements with the other lines blacked out but it will need to be for the value of the item. Onus is on the consumer to supply a receipt if asked for by the business. This far in my dealings with green and reddings never been asked for a receipt they have always gone, " yup it's stuffed here is a new one"
