Is this the world's biggest forum?
I read someone recently saying that this was the biggest forum in the world, but I don't in what context (woodworking forums or any, number of members, threads/posts, sub-forums, or E) all of the above).
What I can say is that it is certainly the most sophisticated of the Woodworking forums. I had cause in early June to join several other forums in pursuit of decent saw files, which all started here of course. None of the other forums even come close to the functionality in terms of:
- Formatting of posts
- Types of attachments allowed
- User information provided (e.g. who has read your thread, who is online and a stack of other things)
- General format of the forums
- the new and excellent "like" button
- the range of Smilies available
- Autosave of your reply (which I use frequently because I forget to turn off auto-refresh with monotonous regularity
In fact, I can't think of anything that I'm wanting for (yeah yeah, I mean forum-wise)
As near as I can tell, Sawmill Creek seems to be about the closest in sophistication (using the same version update), but there are severe limitations. You can't even post a link to any site out side SC, which beggars belief (how are you supposed to share information??).
Anyway, job well done to Unca Neil and the team!Last edited by FenceFurniture; 24th July 2013 at 09:42 PM. Reason: unnecessary offence taken, for some reason

Interesting to see where Whirlpool.net.au is in that list.
The biggest forum I am a member of is the Canon Digital Photography Forums

As far a s SMC is concerned, and with due respect to our American members, a hell of a lot of talking but few people listening.

Depending on what your classify as forums, no, it's pretty much tiny.
The art based forum DeviantArt has 20 million members. That's just a bit under the population of Australia.
The anime forum 4chan doesn't have members, but it gets around one million posts per day, or about 11 posts a second.

Nope, wasn't me , no idea why you thought it was me. Off the top of my head I could name but won't, at least a few that would leave WWF in the dust.
I can say here and now that I do not like you saying that maybe it was me. Going on previous history of you researching the crap out of sourcing stuff to sell, I would've at least appreciate that you could've looked into researching that bit of info instead of say "maybe"

Eh? What's the problem with that? How does that cast you in a poor light (which I presume is what you are saying)? It was a simple innocent question, with no implications. Fair enough if you just don't like someone for whatever reason, but there's no need to get personal about it.

Yes it was a simple innocent question but incorrectly quoted person/username.
Given your history of research in regards to doing group buys and your current saw file thread, would've thought you would've at least made an effort to at least correctly identify the correct person/username rather than saying "maybe" it was ########Cheers

Well I've done damn all research on stuff for group buys - things are either worth buying or they're not, and I don't "sell" them. As far as the research on Saw Files - who said anything about a Group Buy?
I still don't get why you have taken such offence - ok, it wasn't you, you've cleared that up. If I had said thet "someone said something really nasty (maybe it was xx)" or along those lines, you'd have something to complain about. You seem to think I've besmirched your reputation or something.

Brett, stop reading between the lines is all I can say, never said that saw files was a group buy.
