    Default Ebay warning

    After trying to make a complaint to ebay about a seller I learned something:

    1) You must open the case within 45 days.
    2) If it seems like the seller is stalling,make a complaint immediately.
    3) Do not listen to the seller's plea about "Please be patient", most times it is a ploy to exceed the 45 days limit, enabling them to have high ratings although they are not really homouring their promises.
    4) This ploy is especially used by Chinese/Hong Kong sellers

    I just lost $39.95 this way.
    First they sent a faulty item
    Then they told me they had sent a replacement that never arrived
    Then they promised me a refund. This never arrived either.
    Then they stopped replying to emails.

    DO NOT DEAL WITH IWANNEBUY, THEY ARE SHONKY.

    You are allowed to open a case before the 45 days while your still waiting for the item to arrive.
    When it turns up (if it does) you can close the case.

    I've been reasonable lucky with HK items, My 35 dollar leveler had the batteries blow themselves up.
    And I did order a MT1 chuck which they sent with MT2 spindle, then sent me a MT1 spindle quick enough, no extra charge.

    I sort of go with I don't spend more on ebay overseas than I'm prepared to lose.

    Yes, that is what I was told by ebay.
    Do not wait for them to tell you on the last day that the item has been shipped. If it does not turn up, you have lost the opportunity to raise a case.
    I have been reasonable lucky as well but one warning ebay also gave me is to be aware of sellers who are slow to reply to emails.
    I was being nice but didn't know about this ploy.

    Ebay also told me the sellers with free shipping are usually more reliable, as they are bigger businesses and their reputation matters to them.

    $39.95 is not a fortune and I am not going to the poorhouse losing it.
    However, sometimes people spend more than that and then the warning is timely.

    One thing that can still be done, is that ebay will investigate the case as fraud and there is no time limit on that.

    Received this email from ebay today:

    For future reference, I suggest that you keep track of PayPal's 45 days time frame in opening a dispute since you are covered with their Buyer Protection Program which entitles you to get a refund for items not received or items not as described.
    Even though it's been more than 45 days passed from the date of payment you can still file a complaint towards your seller. Though PayPal can't look into the complaint, they keep a record of all the case/claim for a given seller. PayPal reserves the right to reopen any claim for investigation within 180 calendar days if they receive multiple complaints about a particular seller. They'll contact you by email if this is the case.

    You must have been the odd one out.
    From the seller history and ratings I would have happily bought from them.
    only 1 neg out of 350 sales in a month is not bad.
    Maybe you just got lost in the cracks.
    Contact the seller again.

    I had one sell me a faulty item and they did the same, basically said it was on the way, would be there soon, please wait for post etc,
    I'm guessing they just put me off until the next production run and they could get it again, took 2 months.

    I also got a stamp once from brazil seller, item didn't turn up, put in complaint and got my 15 bucks back.
    9 months later the envelope turned up (yes NINE MONTHS) with the stamp I purchased inside.

    I then proceeded to pay the seller, he asked what it was for and I told him that it had arrived and I wasn't having someone think Aussie's were crooks.

    After 4 emails without response I gave up and contacted ebay.
    that's when I was told about how sellers stall the gullible buyers.

    Thank you for posting this thread.

    I think we all get lulled into a sense of false confidence with buying through the internet whether it is Ebay or any other on line sales facility.

    Just because we have mostly good results from our purchases we become complacent and fail to check the bona fides of a seller. I am not suggesting for a moment that there were any indicators in your case that the purchase would go pear shaped.

    In fact the "hits" I have taken were in Oz, but I still buy through Ebay and generally am very pleased with my purchases. The old maxim of "Caveat Emptor" should still be our backstop.

    I will note this thread for any future disputes as in the past I felt Ebay were reluctant to intervene on complaints.

    And this is why I dont buy of that site or patronise its payment system. It is largely unmoderated and the largest recourse is refusing to do further business. Hardly a recipe for confidence IMO.

    The payment system is even worse. Ive never had a response to a query or complaint from them. If it were a physical shop it would be much more accountable. All I can do is withdraw patronage and put up with the funny looks.
