I'm trying to install a couple of nooks into the walls in the bathroom, one in the shower and the other one next to mirror, but I have found metal bracing on the timber frame in both locations which is in the way. There are two walls with the issue, both are non load bearing (this is my assumption as neither wall have any timber touching the top of the frames, the wall frames concerned are attached to the roof rafters via metal brackets, which I assume are there to hold the frame in the location rather than support the rafters). The bracing runs from one corner to the opposite corners in both walls. I would really like to cut a small piece out of each strap which is in the way, the straps would still be attached to the wall but the support if I cut them will be reduced greatly as it will no longer run from top to bottom of frame. I will be re sheeting the shower with Villaboard and the other wall with standard Gyprock (as non wet area). If I cut this straps is this likely to cause a problem in the short or long term or will be sheeting provide enough support. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
