Digital image size

Regarding the digital image size if I have a image that is 2.64 mb do I need to resize it down to a smaller size, or is it automatically re-sized when the thread is posted.

Images have a maximum size and you can't upload a file that's bigger than the limit.. 2.64Mb is too big for an image - jpg, gif etc.
You can see the limits when you go to post an image, the maximum dimensions of an image are also limited.

Thumbnails are automatically created for attached images.
