I was looking at some today and I came across this site among others .
About one third the way down is a sharpening station, what a beauty. foot powered grinding

Here's one I saw in Canada recently, the log base makes it very stable. This was at Fort Calgary and may have been the type used when they built the fort.
Cheers, Ian"The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot.. it can't be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run.
And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better"

Shaving Horse
Can I ask a quick 'hijacky' sort of question while the shaving horse users are here... What's the difference in use of the curved and straight draw shaves on the shaving horse? Is it a matter of preference or are there specific roles?
Matt...I'll just make the other bits smaller.

Thanks for the pictures guys and for the offer to look at one Pagie. In your picture Pagie is that a steel plate that the work sits on under the clamp ? looks like you have heaps of room for adjustment as well .

The Horse.
Hi All,
My only comment is, the ones I have used & owned by others is that, 3 legs are better than 4, as 3 always find their balance, where as 4 rock around.
Nantes, not sure if you are asking about the S/Horse or The Draw Knives used on the S/Horse.Regards,
issatree.

Shaving Horse
Rob, Issatree, I wasn't thinking of the two handed scorp/drawknives, rather the ones where the blade is flat but curves toward the user like a sabre.
Sorry, I wasn't terribly clear....I'll just make the other bits smaller.

Berlin, I have about six draw knives I think. All sizes and types. I use the one that fits the cuts I am making at the time. Or sometimes just the sharpest one. When that one is blunt I sharpen them all. As to the curve of the blade, again just depends on the cut I want. They are very versatile tools, I like using them. There is not much else that will do what they do. No I think it is seven that I have. Still keep looking at markets when I get the chance. Maybe I should not go to any more.
I should go and sharpen something...I am learning, slowley.
