    Yes, the knob I am turning is a pot connected to the dc control board for controlling the speed.

    Hey guys
    Slowly progressing in doing my version of drum sander

    have a question regarding table lifting
    After some thinking I'm sort of leaning towards making a scissor lift mech
    something like
    Lab Jack Aluminum 6 Inch (150mm): The Science Fair Inc.

    Any thoughts about this sort of solution?? Seems simple enough to be done so surprised that I haven't seen anything around it in the forum (at least I haven't seen it)

    Any pro's or cons??

    I thought of doing something like that also. I settled on using acme screw with sprocket and chains and a wheel to raise. If that doesn't work I will try the scissor lift. I would make sure you have a way to keep it straight with rod and pillow bearings...... something like that, otherwise it can go up cockeyed.

    Good Idea though.

    Oh and if you werent thinking of it, I'd replace that turn handle with a dc motor..... hehe

    Heya bevins... definitely under consideration... thinking of dual action.... connect dc motor for nice fast movement with additional hand wheel for nice fine tuning ...
    Considering using 20mm square tubing for scissor action and 50mm L profile for top and bottom support...

    Top part will be secured to side bars of the main frame with ball bearings so in theory i should get nice flat up/down movement...
    (at least that's the theory)

    Current status is...
    got steel (40x40 square tubing and some 35x35 square tubing)
    got 1" solid stainless steel rod for the drum (about 1200mm long)
    cut mdf squares for the drum
    got 25mm fostner bit for drilling centres out (0.4 mm smaller than shaft to ensure tight fitting)
    got some epoxy glue from bunings (to smear it over the shaft to make sure nothing moves)
    Ball bearings and boots for the shaft and table

    now i need to make a nice little router jig to cut 160mm circles... current jig I have is designed for large circle (smallest one is 200mm and goes to 1200mm diam)
    then weld sides for the frame and start messing around with ball bearing table holders
    slow progress but will be fastracked now since demand for the drum sander has increased... (working on a tv credenza... about 500mm deep x 1500mm long x 600 height ) all out of laminated solid wood which I need to sand nicely...
    so lots of expectations from this little unit
    also was able to score second hand dust collector (2HP one) which will come very nicely for this setup..
