Obtaining a White Card - Construction Industry
Hi,
I plan on doing the course CPCCOHS1001A Work Safely In The Construction Industry (White Card). I know it can be done cheaper online but given that I wasn't the brightest person at school (40 years ago) I think going along to a teaching venue would be best for me.
As anyone here obtained one from a teaching establishment near Thornbury, Melbourne? If so, where was it and were you happy with course? I've just noticed that the CFMEU also do the course, any benefits from doing it there?
If you obtain a white card how long does it last for?
For those who obtained theirs online, who did you go with and would you recommend them?
Thanking those in advance of their replies........
Regards
MH

I did mine online a bit over a year ago at elmoaccredited.com.au and didn't have any troubles with them. Can't comment on any 'in person' courses. Heck, I'm not even sure if/when it needs to be renewed.
The thing I found with doing it online was that I could have the notes open in one browser window and the test open in another. Also, if I got questions wrong, I was given the opportunity to retry them...not sure if that's normally allowed with an instructor. It took me about 1.5 hours to skim the notes and complete the test.
Doing it in a real world course at least gives you the ability to ask questions and discuss situations.
Most of it is common sense. On the few times that I tripped up it it was mostly on terminology or bureaucratic "who can do what" things.
I know of one complete and utter bozo who passed his test during a TAFE course. This is the kid that LITERALLY used a hammer to bang 40mm screws 3/4 of the way in then finish them off with a manual screwdriver because he didn't want to use a drill and thought it was a good idea....so it shouldn't be that hard for you to obtain

MH,
I did the Red card course in person with HIA (going back awhile now) and prior to the test the instructor told us to give our neighbour a 'chop out' if they were struggling with a question ! Online or in person they give you plenty of opportunity to pass.
As Redshirt Guy says is all just common sense.
Cheers,
Sam

The White Card.
Hi All,
I did mine 2 yrs ago here in Geelong, Vic, with a firm, AGB.
As far as I'm aware they do most of the State.
There were mainly Mens Shed Boys there, with a few younger Chaps as well.
Wood have been18 all told that did the course, & we all passed.
The only trouble I had was trying to get my Certificate & White Card, as the kept telling me I didn't do the Course.
All turned out OK in the end.Regards,
issatree.
