Default spindle moulder template, watch the fingers

I saw this on youtube, I'm wondering if at exactly 9:00, his fingers are as close as they appear to those knives... A G PAIK SPINDLE MOULDER PART 1 - YouTube

How do you usually hold your templates on a spindle moulder? Should you just use a bigger template than you might for a router? (and maybe the machine guard...)

    Where to begin????
For open spindle work any sane person will have a seperate pattern for the outside and inside cuts. This will allow for a WIDE base with HANDLES away from the cutters, toggle hold downs and an end piece so the work doesn't get away. The spindle looked and sounded too small for that sort of work as well. Two men working together, that close on an open spindle, is bad practice. ( plumb crazy )
For the scribe/ counter scribe. I always work face down, race on top, always cover as much of the cutter as possible. Same for the panels, face down race on top.
For an arched top panel a pattern is required to allow for a lead in to stop the race before the cut begins. Those fellas were stopping the race with the job, on the corner. If you have ever done that with a router, you'll know it is risky.
The narrow end ,opposite the arch should also have a lead in to bridge the fence opening on straight runs. Those fellas were lucky that time but luck shouldn't be any part of the equation.
    Cheers, Bill
