    Question Hello

    Hello,

I'm from Brisbane and I recently decided that I wanted to make a set of masks out of wood, both to challenge myself and to use as a cosplay for an anime convention.

The set of masks I wish to re-create can be found here:

Now firstly, I cannot stress how much I do not know about wood carving. I know nothing. My woodwork teacher kicked me out of the class in high school because I kept forgetting my gear (that was 16 years ago). I have watched some clips on YouTube and I will be doing some research both from on this site and other various sources. What I'd like to get from joining this community is some advice and / or guidance on how I should proceed, i.e. 'what type of wood to use? How much will I need? What tools will I need and how do I use them effectively to get the effects I am after?' That sort of thing.

The help would be much appreciated as I am truly an amateur at this, but I would love to be able to make these masks and if I develop my skill and enjoy the craft I may continue to work with wood as a hobby.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
    N.

G'day Nerezza and welcome to the house of knowledge!! enjoy your time with us!

I'm no woodcarver but I am wondering if those masks might not be better made from paper?
