Sprayed with what? If its lacquer can't you just spray it again with satin ? Or you could try trad wax on it. Will make a nice luster to the surface rather than shiny.

You should be able to coat the gloss with satin, to get a less aggressive finish. You could use Wipe On Poly, applied with a cloth, allowed to dry then sanded back and recoated. Should give you a great satin finish. As Tea Lady says, Trad wax after a cut with EEE cream will then give you a great lustrous finish.

I think you should just sand between coats to remove all traces of gloss, not back to bare timber. Make sure you use the same type of poly for the next coat, don't mix water base and oil based coats.

If you want it matt cut it back with 600 or 800 wet and dry.

I would use 800 first to see the results.

Put a squirt of detergent in the water you use to act as lubricant.

If however you want a soft luster.

Rub back with 0000 steel wool and a good furniture wax I use Black Bison but others would work I guess.

    Cheers
