Natural looking finish over stain
So im going to be staining up some alder to be very dark for an armoire. Im very interested in a natural oil finish and was considering trying the burnishing method LGS suggested because its fantastic looking. But ive been reading that tung oil doesnt do very well over oil based stain.
Ive also noticed alot of 'tung oil finish' products, some of which dont even contain tung oil. Would one of these be a better bet over stain? Or perhaps shellac? I cant really avoid using stain so i want to get the right finish without the plastic look.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
