Default Triton TRA001 collet nut locked

Had a look around the forum but could not find an answer to my problem.

This is a table mounted router and has never caused me any problem in the past. Fitted a 1/2" cutter and before using it decided that I needed to change the table insert. Went to undo the collet locking nut and it would not move. Have tried everything other than a sledge hammer and it will not move. Any suggestions - and be nice.

I have had a similar problem.
The design of the collett and use in a table allows small particles to fall inside. This causes galling and seizure.
Am now on my 3rd one. I know it should be regularly cleaned / blown out - BUT.
First time I ended up removing the whole assembly from the router and clamping it in a vice with a good whack did the trick.
I believe they have come up with a better design. Get that one as a replacement.

Thanks for the reply Phil. Was hoping for something a little less painful. Have had this router about 6+ years with no problems at all. I will have another look at it today.

Thanks BS. I found that info last night. My problem was not a cutter stuck in the collet, it was the collet nut stuck. However, the problem is now fixed. With Phil just using brute force I upgraded the supplied spanner to an adjustable wrench. Did the job!!!

As Phil pointed out, a lot of dust can gather in the bottom of the collet if table mounted. Cleaned this out. Also took to the shaft of the cutter with 400 wet and dry as this cutter had not been used for a couple of years. Did not remove metal, just cleaned it up.

    Another win for the forum.
