packhard wheel update
Been crook for a while, but sparking on six of the eight pots now, finaly got the brass tube that I wanted (Georg White&co. melb.) photo's show how I,ve gone about drilling the holes for the spokes.
( I made up the Indexing jig, worked ok once I got it centred properly) I lightly marked the distance apart that i wanted with the tube cutter then put the tube in the jig & drilled all the holes, then cut each off with the cutter,Ive drilled a couple of the centres,NOW comes the hard part, putting the spokes in place, medication has really given me the shakes, well we'll see how we goCD.

Hi Crowie
well maybe 7, definatly not the full eight cyclinders, with c.o.p.d. a dose of pneumonia knocks you around..... yes the indexing head that I made worked well , there are a couple of holes out of line a bit, but that won't matter, you would have to get a magnifing glass to check once it is finished
(I hope) CD.

new idea
I found that I was not able to make the wheel like I had intended,
So have change the center hub. I mucked up the order of the pictures, the first should have been the last. Well what I have done now is I've used the spindel? center of a tap where the washer stem fits, Fitted it to my indexing head and drilled 1mil holes 12x12 off set,And I could make 2 hubs out of 1 spindel Then I super glued the rim to a small peice of scrap wood with a centered hole drilled in it to center the hub (from below) I then put the pins in to every second hole, so they went right through into the center, and smothered the center in super glue, when set, I used multigrips to turn the hub around one hole so when I put the other lot of pins in the other off set holes it gave me the crossed spokes. I clipped off the pin ends and soldered them to the rim, ground them off. put the wheel in the press drill vice and drilled out the center to get rid of the pins in there, and painted them.
I have compleated three,& thee to go, I'm waiting on more 1mill drills, They break quite easily , the last packet I got there was 8 that were not sharpened. CD.
