Howzit
G ’day
I’d like to introduce myself to all you fellow “woodies” outthere. My login name is Umhlangaboy; Umhlanga is a residential area north of DurbanSouth Africa where I lived for a number of years. I have recently relocated toNoosa to be with my son and his family.
At the moment my main interests are Fly Fishing (Salt water)Fly Tying and woodwork. I have made a few Victorian Rocking Horses, including ½sizes, one of which is the plywood type. I have been using American Poplar forthe horse and Ash for the stand; however I am having a problem sourcing timberthick enough for the head and body parts, 70mm thick, 250mm wide. Laminating isnot really an option as the head is a feature component and to have a jointrunning through it may spoil its appearance. Can anyone offer some suggestionswhere I can source timber, I believe Radiata Pine would be suitable but I can’tfind a supplier on the Sunshine Coast
Best regardsIMG_1848.jpg001.jpg001A.jpg003B.jpg004.jpgIMG_1875.jpg009.jpg

Welcome to the forum.
This forum has a number of sub-forums and I might suggest that you post the question of wood supply in this part of the forum.

G'Day & welcome John,
What a great looking rocking horse, you've done a top job on it.
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
I'm sure one of the locals will tell you a supplier; try the Cooroy Woodwork Shed??
You've done very well to show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo especially WIP photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Good luck with the timber supplier & woodwork.
Cheers, crowie
Check out the toymaking section TOY MAKING
PS - Send me a "PM" of email if you can't the timber supplier as I have family friends in Maroochydore who work in cabinetry.

Hey John.
I also was born in Africa, but emigrated to OZ many years ago. I am sure that your settling in just fine (Especially being in Noosa!)
All the best with your craft.
Cheers
Erik
