Hi from Melbourne - complete woodwork novice
Hi all,
My name is Clarence, and I've joined on this forum as I am in need of some help and guidance for a grand project I have in my head!
I'd like to carve a small-ish elephant carving for my girlfriend's 30th birthday in January. (thread is here).
If anyone is in (south-east) Melbourne and is often doing woodwork/carving and doesn't mind a pair of watchful eyes, I'd love to come and visit to see how it's done!
A bit about myself; I am a photographer specialising in automotive photography, you can see some of my work here (www.facebook.com/tangcla.photography) if you are interested. I work as a financial analyst during the daylight hours.

G'Day & Welcome Clarence,
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers Crowie
PS - we're all novice at somethings.....

Welcome to the forum. Hope you find someone that does not mind a pair of watchful eyes. Meanwhile I see that you have posted in the carving section and getting some replies do post updates on your progress.

Thanks everyone, I have bought a beginner's pack from Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers as well as an elephant roughout in case I run out of time. The beginners pack comes with a knife, gouges, strop and a book.
