Building up teeth on a gear cog

I have an old but quite functional concete mixer - that is except for the pinion drive gear. This has worn down to the point it now jumps the steps in the ring gear on the drum. Parts are no longer available. Other makes and models pinion gears have 11,12 or 13 teeth not 10 as this one does. It is made of ferrous metal (magnetic) but is very soft - probably cast but looks turned.

Any thoughts on building up the teeth with some weld? Precision does not have to be great as the ring gear is only a sheet of thin steel with rectangular holes punched into it with the edges rounded down - like a ladder with round rungs.

If it is cast iron you should be able to weld it up. You'll need some nickel rods made for welding cast iron. I'd weld one tooth up at a time and clean up with a grinder as you go to give a reference point.

If it is just steel then yeah, same thing but use steel rods.
