Lots of discussion in Victoria at the moment as to whether
aged drivers should be re-tested at various times for their
driving licence. It is with tongue in cheek that I submit
this one.

I've sure gotten old!
I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees,
fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear
anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications
that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have
boluts with dementia. Have poor circulation; can hardly feel my
hands and feet anymore. Have difficulty recognizing red, green
or amber lights. Can't remember what age I am, what my
telephone number is, where my house is located or the names
of my friends.

Thank God I still have my Driver's Licence.

having moved to Victoria from interstate a couple of years ago I was finally forced to transfer my rego and licence to Victoria earlier this year.

The Vicroads chick behind the counter who was processing my new license handed the new on over to me and the look on her face was priceless when I asked: "So now I have a victorian license does that mean i have to drive as badly as the rest of the victorian drivers or is that optional?"

I have driven in every state of Australia and in several countries around the world, including places like Bangkok and Jakarta and the only place I have ever driven where I fear for my life every time i get behind the wheel is in Victoria.

I reckon WA drivers are worse, they have no road sense, little common courtesy and have not worked out how to merge.

Quite agree BobL. I have felt safer driving around the UK on the M1???? when a sudden heavy fog descended on us. Heaps of cars, trucks and busses but I still felt safer than driving in Perth. Doesn't say much when I used to be a driving instructor in that fair city.

Try Brisbane.

Yep they don't know how to merge, but it gets better. They stop in the middle of busy roads for no reason, change lanes into you oblivious. They wait 30 second after the lights change to move off! they plough into roundabouts regardless.

Add in people driving on the wrong side of the road, failing to give way and tailgating and you have my daily 4.5km drive home from the train station in outer Melbourne. Come to think about it, I encounter most of that before I even get out of the station car park. And its EVERY day without fail.

Orange NSW was the worst, when all the bushies come to town in their big 4WDs on cattle sale days, and try and angle park in the main drag. Some driving at 10kph (proudly boasting never having had an accident in 50 years of driving, despite leaving a trail of carnage behind them) , others doing a dead stop in the flow of traffic when they spot a parking opportunity.

I think they have abandoned the reverse angle parking now
