Treating New Melunak Timber Bench Top

Hi,

Im completely new to this forum, so hoping this was the right section to post the thread in. Feel free to move it if there's a better spot.

Ive just bought my first home a few weeks ago and Im in the middle of renovations. I managed to pick up a reasonable kitchen bench top from a demolition market (interestingly the kitchen bench top is new/unused).

It's made of Melunak and appears to be a number of strips of the timber, joined together.

It looks quite nice, but Im a little unsure as to how I need to treat it so it has a bit of protection on top and lasts longer..

The guys at the demolition market were pretty hopeless and didnt have an idea, but I have been reading this forum for a little while and found alot of helpful info, so thought I might ask and see if anyone has any tips.

Is it just a matter of lightly sanding and oiling a few times.. then sealing with some bees wax?

I'd suggest Hard Burnishing Oil for the frame and the top using this method. Liquid resistant (hot and cold) direct heat resistant (hot pans directly on to it, steaming pot lids too, no problem) You can use whatever kitchen cleaner you have available with no adverse affects. (say, Spray and Wipe for example) Never loses it's cool!
