Hi from NSW Australia!
Hi everyone i just joined this forum and thought id say hi.
Im new to woodwork (apart from what i did at school) and im interested in getting into relief carving.
Im an artist and i paint custom artwork on tattoo machine frames and also do canvas paintings, airbrush, tattoo designs ect ect. So i was hoping to be able to do some of my art on wood also.
i have just purchased a flexcut set (hopfully ive made a good choice there?)
What is some nice timber for a begginer to start out with? just something easy to work with so i can have a practice?
Any advice would be appreciated!

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum John.
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for the most, very willing to assist.
Make sure you should off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers, crowie

Welcome to the forum. If this just to practice then you can use pine.
But I suspect that you would want to show off the piece you had created and I have been told that a good carving wood is Jelutong.
From my perspective I have not done any carving.
