    Default Another new guy...

G'day all, I'm mrperpy, and I'm into woodworking!

It started off as an interest, or "something I'll do one day", but then a perfect opportunity came along - my daughter's bedroom needed a desk that would fit into a certain space, and there was nothing available anywhere that was the right size.

With a little encouragement from my wife, I decided to build one. Long story short, I spent a bunch of time reading, bought the materials, and a few months later my daughter had a nice timber desk that fit in her bedroom perfectly

Since that day, I've been hooked on the idea of building furniture and other things. I've got a couple more projects planned, and look forward to doing more real soon.

I look forward to chatting with you all about my new found hobby

    Cheers,
    mrperpy

Welcome mrperpy, I'm yet to write my own welcome note but thought I'd say a quick hi to you first. A passion for all things timber seems to be the order of the day for all of us lurking, learning and teaching here. I'm yet to have a good look around the forum, but I'm sure there is a niche for everyone and am glad to have found such a treasure trove of knowledge as I'm sure you are.

Hi thegoodwood, thanks for the welcome

I'm interested in getting a hold of pre-loved timber and cleaning it up to build furniture and other things. At the moment I've got the remains of a pergola that used to live at my Mother In Law's place, and I've been planning to strip the paint and build myself a workbench.

What do you like to do?

Big heavy old school slab furniture will be my main focus, but the wife likes to play with silky oak and the like. And having just purchased a mobile sawmill I will be lurking in the small timberd milling threads for a while as I load the shed up with slabs.

    Hello and welcome mrperpy,
you mentioned pre loved timber- I don't know where you are in Bris but on my trips up there I have visited The Demolition Yard, 55 Cavendish Rd Coorparoo, just near where it crosses the railway. Plenty of denailed and neatly stacked 2nd hand timber and the prices were good. Not affiliated in any way just reckon it is a good place to check.
    All the best, Tony.

    Thanks for the welcome crowie

Tony - I'm all the way up on the north side near Caboolture, so it'd take me about an hour to get there on a normal run... I'll be sure to check it out one day soon. Thanks!

    Cheers,
    mrperpy
