    Default New Welder

    Hi Blokes

I retired my 30yr old CIG Transarc 140amp EasyWelder yesterday and bought a new Lincoln Inverter welder. Wanted to see what all the fuss was about using a inverter over and old buzzbox.

Sure is a big difference, apart from being quite when welding, the amps settings are totally different to the old machine, the welds look clean and full, and it only weighs 7.5 kilos. No more using the Kevrek crane on the back of my ute to pick up the old girl (welder).

As much as I love my couple of inverter welders, There is still s place for your old 140amp AC machine.. Some electrodes dont like DC inverters.
All I am saying is dont get rid of the old girl.

Sounds like you are doing much better than me. I bought a new inverter unimig 170 arc welder and I hate it. I find it much more difficult to weld with than my fathers old ac monarc 130 amp arc welder. The electrodes stick more and is difficult to maintain a stable arc. Admittedly I'm a beginner stick welder.

Must admit I found the same problem. The welding rods are old, SatinCraft13 in various sizes, I touched up a heap of the ends on the linisher, remember my bro-in-law telling me way back that to strike a good arc is to ensure the end is cleaned up, he use to rub the end onto whatever was at hand before he placed that in the holder.

The dragon does not like bits of blue on her nice concrete, so I did them on the linisher. Wish I could get some more of them Strata 555 rods, for me they were cream to weld with.
