Sandpaper
This is probably an ancient question done to death, but - where does everyone source cheaper (than bunnings) sand paper - preferred types of paper - ie garnet vs ali oxide plus whatever.
Very interested to hear from everybody beginner to otherwise.
For me
Current source: Bunnings (hangs head in shame)
Types: Garnet until about 180/220 then ali oxide - more because that is only what bunnings stocks

I buy both Al oxide (dry sanding) and wet&dry paper from Supercheap Auto when they have it on special, which they have regularly and when they do I stock up.

Good paint shops also have it but do not know how price compares.

The Sandpaper.
Hi .Oxy,
I take it that you are talking about Finishing Wood.
I have used " Hermes 406 J Flex " Blue on Grit side with Yellow Cloth Back, for all the years I have been Turning. I use 80, 100, 120, 150, 180, 240, 320, 400.
I now have a New Paper, " Indasa, Rhynowet Redline " with My Thanks to TTIT.
Grits 240, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200. Best Paper I have ever used, made in Portugal.
You think after using The Indasa, that it has had it, BUT, give it a clean on you Overalls, & it is as good as when you started, & it lasts a long time.
That's my 2 sense worth.Regards,
issatree.

Totally agree with Issatree. I used some of the Portugese sandpaper a few months ago to sand a whole lot of ply using an orbital sander. The sandpaper did not lose its cutting power right throughout. Likewise I have been using the Hermes sandpaper for years and can attest to its quality.
Personally think that buying cheap stuff is false economy.
Gary.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
Yes - for finishing wood, for me not for turning, mainly smoothing out the nearly finished product before and after applying oils/varnishes
@issatree - where do you your indasa from?
I just found a link for someone in perth
Indasa Abrasives
@jimbur - know what you mean about self-destructing pieces of sandpaper that leave great big @%##$%@ scratches where they shouldn't.
@Kidbee - a quick look on the indasa america site and the prices seem (without shipping) cheaper than per sheet or roll at bunnings - but overall I definitely agree with your statement about false economy as long as more $$ equals more quality / longer life.
