Hi all, I'll put this out there hoping to gather info.

My neighbour has had a old Qlder moved onto his block. Raised and stumped the usual way with 75 x 75 gal posts ( not hot dipped - brand unknown), PFC's etc... The posts were painted with bitumen (only the in ground portion) before the concrete was poured. About a week after the posts were done a slab was poured. As usual, the concreters used the posts to tie the form work which has left 1 face of the post exposed. The neighbour called me over to have a look at his posts. At least 4 are nearly rusted through and another 6 are looking average. These posts are no more than 2 years old. Ive seen it before but no where near as bad as this.

So I was wondering if anyone knows why this happens. Is it a reaction with the concrete ? Is in cheap crap steel ? Something else ?

I've got a fair bit of experience with steel and have never seen gal degrade this quickly. I can see a massive fight coming with the house raiser as some posts will know doubt have to be replaced. Which raises another question - how ? I cant see a way without ruining the slab.
