Default Finish for a hardwood workbench

    Hi all,

I have just built a workbench from recycled hardwood. The bench is going to be used for general garage/shed/workshop duties. I would like to protect the surface a little from paint and grease/oil spills without covering the benchtop with a sheet of MDF etc

Does it need to be finished with lacquer or something else? I was thinking of polyurethane finish.

    Thanks for the wisdom...
    Michael

Personally mine had a couple of coats of Boiled Linseed Oil and gets wiped over again whenever it needs a refresh because of scratches or other marks.

I'll second the BLO. Super easy to maintain.
I drilled some additional dog holes yesterday. A quick sand and a wipe over with BLO and they look like they have been there the whole time
Those were the droids I was looking for.
