Anyone near Armidale??
Hi all. Moved from Sunshine Coast to Armidale about 8 months ago, and there seems to be a real woodwork drought around here. Am really hoping I'm wrong. Does anyone know of any fellow Woodies and/or timber millers or suppliers around Armidale?

G'Day
Even though I am in Tamworth I know that there is at least 2 Forumites in Armidale. One in particular got me out of a problem and was extremely easy to get along with. As far as suppliers goes you have Bunnings but I would say that you will find Armidale Building Supplies a company that will do their best for you. There is also a company who does a lot of hard wood milling for floor boards and other structural and feature timbers. They are a couple of brothers who have been in Armidale for along time.
My brother has been living there for 25 years and quite likes it as a country town. He is the Curator of the Folk Museum and an active member of the local Vintage Car Club If you dropped into the museum he could point you in the direction a Mens Shed and the likeJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

What I know so far...
Thanks so far. Might have to pop in to the Folk Museum and say "Hi".
Have been visiting the Men's Shed. Their facilities here are in an old joinery shop that's better equipped than any workshop I've ever seen! Shame it's got so few members.
And, yes, I'm MUCH more interested in timber than fireWOOD. We heat our place with gas. Have heard plenty of tales of the good ol' days of milling good quality, cabinet-grade timbers... but sadly that seems to be limited to history.

Welcome to Armidale.
For timber you could try Zielinski Timbers at Acacia Park. There's also a forum member out Dorrigo way that I purchased some timber off some time ago ... Stopper I think is his forum name - he might be able to help.
ABS, Bunnings and Richo's only really stock "builders" timbers, so I'm not sure how much use they will be (although I find ABS gives great service and do most of my hardware/tool shopping there).Cheers.
Vernon.

Welcome to the forum.
Did you move because of work or climate?
