Clear varnish for use outside
Hi there,
I am after some advice on using a clear varnish to protect a dining table for use on a covered deck.
Basically I wanted to know if there was any product that I could use on a painted pine dining table to protect it if the dining table was to be located outside on a covered deck. It would get very little sun and no direct rain, just a bit of misting during heavy showers.
The actual table is this one from freedom.
Spice Hall Dining Table 230x75cm | Freedom Furniture and Homewares
I know it is made of pine and has a glossy paint finish but there is no other information on the products used.
Thanks!

If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Spar varnish doesn't have the same amount of UV & weather protection as other exterior grade varnishes. Spar marine is used where you require the coating to retain flexibilty. For an exterior table, the best I've found I'd feast Watson weatherproof.

Even under a covered deck it will be exposed to a significant amount of scattered UV which can significantly deteriorate any varnish. I can't think of anything that would last in Brisy weather conditions for more than about two years. One possibility is to consider covering it with something when it is not in use.

2nd thoughts are that you'll probably need a water based exterior varnish to be compatible with the water based ( most likely) paint. I've seen intergrain ultra clear exterior varnish used to protect a mural outside. Lasted ages and didn't yellow.
