Thanks TL. Escritoire is, in fact, in the english dictionary. Also I had multiple attempts in a flurry of New Year fervour.

So you have a go Skew's_Girl. If we haven't heard in 24 hrs from now, I will assume you are relaxing on a sundrenched beach without internet connection and I will post in your absense.

    Regards

"Escritoire is, in fact, in the english dictionary."

That does not mean much, as the first word in most English dictionary s is in fact Afrikaans.

The poms were, in the past, particularly adept at taking things for themselves and calling them their own as it suited.

There are very few truly english words as most are derived from latin, greek and the multitude of other nations that walked all over the poms for a thousand years or more. Once they had learnt their lesson they attempted to do the same to everyone else, arguably with some success.

Escritoire, tambour ..... clearly french words, but in the english dictionary, just like Aardvark.

Skew's_Girl, where are you? We need to move on.

They were also good at invading other countries and then complaining when those people followed them home!

You make a good point and it lends weight to the recommendation to "be careful what you wish for" as it can return to haunt you.

Now would be the perfect time to find a spot on the beach. The extra half mile of ice sheet gives ample room for all and no need to bring the Esky!

Sorry, basking, sled dogs just didn't want to leave the sun drenched freedom... or their feet stuck to the ice s' 50/50 really. New years fireworks through a cloud of your own frozen breath? Anyone?

Did I say "sundrenched"? I meant "snowdrifted" .

Following mafiosi tradition they made him dig his own grave, although still nobody has come up with a method of making the "hit" fill it in.

Yes the bucket is approved by Workplace Health and Safety, but really only as a digging implement, not an Elevated Work Platform.

Was forgetting you might be a little snowed under at this time of year considering where you are. I should have known better! Do you have trace heating on the computer keyboard?

It's been a little cooler here than normal too. Has hardly reached 30 deg C. Another couple of months of summer still to go and it could warm up yet.

No worries Bushmiller. Skew and I had a good chuckle looking between the -2 thermometer and "Sundrenched beaches" line. It was perfect at that moment.

I'm in 'back to work after the holidays' mode and that always gives me a dry sense of humour. It's been unseasonably warm for us this winter too, but don't tell Skew that. If he knew it was supposed to be a solid -8 to -10 by now I think he would have grabbed a dozen migrating sheerwaters and flocked south with them.

Traces of heat? nah I just imported an Aussie .
