    Default G'day

I'm probably not the first 60 year old to think he (or she!) now has time to get back to the crafts/trades he enjoyed years ago - now that the kids have flown the coop - I may be kidding myself!

I became a fair carpenter and mechanic by necessity, living in the outback, but what I was pretty good at was leatherwork, mainly harness - I hope to do some of that again too.

But I want to try my hand at simple woodwork. The old homestead needs repairs, including the kitchen cabinets. Also interested in making simple furniture, deck chairs, squatter's chairs, small tables, book cases. And walking sticks.

I'd be grateful for advice - what basic tools/machinery I should have - I have hand tools, a few drills & mitre saw - can anyone suggest a Triton-style bench to simplify joining? - how sensible is it to rip and dress demolition timber? - any advice on how to make good walking sticks.

    Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. You have quite a lot of questions and not all the forum members look under this subsection. You might want to do a search and post questions related to the next job at hand.
