Petrol prices
Got this email today anyone else got it?
I think something needs to be done but not in this way...
WORTH THINKING ABOUT!
Subject: Petrol Prices
To the 3rd generation............Petrol Prices - worth thinking about!
> >Apparently we are going to hit close to $1.35 a litre by the winter. If this happens the prices will flow on down to the price of every thing we buy! Want petrol prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.
Philip Hollsworth, offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain "day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt ourselves" by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at .89 / .95 cents, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol!
> >And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
> >Here's the idea:
> >For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are: BP and Mobil). If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
> >But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!
> >Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ...and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!
> >Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (and not buy at BP and Mobil) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
> >PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 80 cents a LITRE
> >RANGE.
> > It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Caltex, Safeway or other Outlets and drive past BP and MOBIL Stations.....................................................................

Something similar to this did the rounds about a year ago. Didn't really have any effect

Aside from the merits or otherwise
Of course the major difficulty is convincing a couple of million people to do something. Its hard enough getting 2 people to agree on something and act acccordingly but millions? There was a thread on petrol prices recently and someone was commenting on the in-elasticity (If that was the word used) of petrol. About rising price not lowering demand I think, and was interesting.

Maybe the original email was created by someone at Shell or Caltex hoping to gain a competitive edge against BP and Mobil (albeit a short term advantage).

Public influence of fuel prices – mwhahahahahahahahah.
If anyone believes they can collectively target a retailer to help to lower prices – sit down, take a chill pill and check that you’re still on Alice’s invite list for the next tea party in Wonderland...

Rod if your only paying 40% then your lucky
58% goes to the Government here in Vic
oh its not all Tax some of its excise (not a tax any more )
Excise isnt a tax any more because by law you cant tax a tax
dont blame the Retailer for the high prices they only make 2 1/2 cents a litre
BLAME THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE THEY TAKE 6 CENTS OUT OF EVERY 10Lucas

Mobil Refines its own BP buys from mobil to there blend and shell make there own but BP and Mobil buy diesel from Shell cause they make the best low sulphur diesel
Safeway/caltex import it from maylasia i wouldnt put it in my lawnmower
just a word of warning Major Car Companies are now cutting up fuel tanks if they have major fuel system problems ....... if they find lots of **** in them warranty is void
Since Shell has done the Coles Myer 4 cent deal it is selling 40% more fuel
and just a bit of trivia a Safeway fuel station takes up only 68 car parking spots of landLucas
