Hi All
Just as someone else posted below, I'm a long time lurker, but thought it was past time to get on board...
Until about 3 yrs ago I had never touched a woodworking tool in anger. In my previous life I was a chef in Melbourne, and then moved into the tertiary education sector. About 3 yrs ago I had a tree-change, and moved to Central Vic, which is fantastic.
I had always played and been fascinated by guitars and other stringed instruments, and was interested in making my own. In researching this, I just became completely caught up and amazed in timber, and the incredible skills that luthiers and woodworkers in general have. Making a guitar or 2 is still on the to-do list, but at the moment I am very happy working on other projects and trying to learn the craft.
Had a minor incident with a tablesaw (around 60 stiches in 2 fingers worth) around a year ago which dampened my enthusiasm and confidence for a while, but they are almost back to 100%, but I'm a lot more cautious and safety conscious than what I was.
This forum has ( and will continue to be) been an amazing place to get inspiration, so thanks to all of the contributors over the past few years.
Currently building a version of the 21st century workbench, and vow never to try and handcut 70X70 mortises in hardwood again!
Cheers
Chris
