Woodworker wannabe intro
Hi all,
Just thought I might drop a quick intro here with a bit about my background.
I'm currently working as a drafter in a structural engineering firm in Perth. I've been drafting for around 7 years now using mainly AutoCAD and now Revit. Before I got into drafting I was very interested in 3D modeling with programs such as 3dStudio Max, Maya, lightwave, and to a lesser extent AutoCAD (which was woeful at 3d back in the day) and really enjoyed woodwork as a hobby.
I would really love to get back into woodworking, but living in a rental with no room to set up any sort of workshop means it's just a pipe dream at this stage. Although I very interested in the Perth Woodschool classes and will likely give one a shot in the new year.
I am also developing my own website which, though it is in its very early infancy at the moment, I'm hoping to turn into a one stop resource centre for people looking for advice and help on how CAD software can be used in their craft or hobby.
I am hoping that while I learn about woodworking I can help other people learn CAD. I have a few video tutorials showing how to draft up some simple woodworking projects using SketchUP and DoubleCAD (free CAD software) and am working on more if anyone is interested. They can be found at CraftyCAD | Is CAD…Is Crafty.
I'm sure I will pick up loads of information from this forum and hopefully I will be able to help a few of you out as well with my CAD background. With any luck I will be able to get my projects out of the computer and into a workshop soon.
Regards,
Cameron
