    Default Oak carver

As a house warming present, a friend I'd been staying with gave me this oak carver on the understanding that I 'fix it up'. She knows someone who can make the reed ( or rush) seat so all I have to do is glue it back together and apply a suitable finish.

Any suggestions as to a suitable finish for this?

Scotch in one hand feet up and dreaming of a big shed with lots of tools ...........now thats a fine finish

Geoff looks like it has some real nice grain why not just a Ubeaut shellac. or a friction polish
