Default Anyone bought decking from auctions or ebay?? Quality??

    Evening all,

I'm looking at buying timber for a deck + outdoor furniture. Australian hardwood. I've noticed that there are a few auction type sites - ebay, renovator auctions etc. The timber price appears to be around half of the standard price (typical prices around $2-$3/lineal m compared to $4 - $6 from a timber place. Anyone bought a pack from these places? I don't want to end up with a pack of 2nd grade heavily warped timber.

I'm based in sydney if anyone has any handy hints for a good cheap decking timber place. I probably need a couple of hundred lineal metres.

    Cheers,

    Tom

Its usually being auctioned for a reason. If your not too fussy youll be ok. Lots of shorts, bowed, damaged. Its hard to check when in packs. Small quantities are often left overs and usually good quality and much easier to get a good look at.

    G'day,
Ive bought several off ebay - most of the timber are okay depend what youre going to use it for, the yard get very annoyied when you're going "thru their timber" to find good piece even though you bought it off ebay..

I did buy 1 pack lot of 90x20 3 metre, 80% was fine, 20% was either badly machined/knots/warped/undersized, but it was fine for me as I used the timber elsewhere where you wouldnt see it.

On the Deck - the rafters and bearers are off ebay as well - they were 90% okay, I remembered 3 pieces out of 15 pieces was twisted and we had to bolt it down with clamps before actual bolt it right down, at the end of the day it was straight, and youre not going to see it and I did save about half of the price.

    Cheers
    AP
