    Default totally clear finish,possible?

    HiYall,
I'm currently working on making an outdoor shelf for my deck area.

    The timber is a slab 3.5m x 300-400mm x 40mm thick, blackhearted sassafras.
As I have been sanding it some beautiful colours have emerged, ranging from black to burgundy (in the heartwood) to the blondish colour of the rest of the timber.
The shelf will be mostly undercover, won't have direct sunlight on it but might get a bit of rain on it when the rain comes down on an angle and gets under the deck roof.

What I'm hoping to do is put a weatherproof product on it that won't change the colours in the timber.
    Is there such a thing?
I'm open to ideas, epoxy's, polyurethanes etc.
    Would appreciate any suggestions.

    cheers
    billy
