timber source
I don't remember if I have said anything about where I get most of my timber from, but I'll state it now. One of the local garages sells Polaris all terrain vehicles. One in particular is sent on a very large timber pallet. I should add that they are imported from the Americas. The timber is marked mostly with Canadian approval numbers, although I got some oak today with US number stamped on it.
I realize that for most people, this will be unattainable, but if anyone can find one of these retailers, I am sure that they would be more than happy to allow you to have their old pallets. They are only dumped after all.
They are a lot of work to get the result, but the yield is very worthwhile.
Each pallet will give 10 x 3m 90x40, 2 x 1.8m 140x40, around 12 x 90mm pan head batten screws with a torx drive and if you are able to remove them without breaking them, 12 x 1.8 70x40 (I personally don't bother because of the shear amount of nails approx 5 per join, mostly they bust on removal)
From the tops there is 3 x 3m 80x20 dressed all round and 5 x 1.8 80x20 dressed all around. The four sides don't seem to yield much of any use because it is gang nailed like a roof truss and almost impossible to break apart.
I was able to get three of these this week and the photo's show the yield.Check my facebook:rhbtimber
