    Smile huon pine coasters

    Hi,
While visiting Tassie from the UK in February, I brought home some huon pine coasters. They had not been treated with anything, We were told at the time to oil them but can't remember what sort of oil to use. The wood is so beautiful that we don't want to spoil them with coffee stains.
    Can I have some advice.
    Thanks
    Carol

There's plenty that would do - they were probably suggesting plain old boiled linseed though. It's what I use on all my harden tool handles, brings up the wood nicely. Try it on the underside first though in case I'm wrong!

You could also use Shellac as that too, would highlight the huon's beauty. I've used Ubeaut's Hard Shellac on my kitchen hardwood island bench where it takes a beating but still looks great. I am careful about keeping it clean, not leaving water lying on it etc, but it is still going strong after a about a year and looks good.
