Timber floor has darkened
Gidday everyone,
We had a spotted gum solid timber floor installed in November. We left it unsealed to season for 2 months and then had it sealed at the end of January with a water based satin sealant. The furniture was replaced as was a large rug after a week or so. After about 6 weeks I discovered the timber has darkened in the exposed areas and under the rug and legs of furniture the timber has remained lighter. The room receives light but no sun. Should timber darken so quickly? Is it due to the quality of the sealant? Is there any way to avoid this if we resand and seal the area again?
Thank you for any advice

Hi LouLou and welcome to the forum. Not sure about the flooring question but you may find you will get plenty of advice if you post your problem in this part of the forums.

We installed a similar floor which was already sealed after kiln drying and it too darkened with age where it was exposed to light. I think you will find that it is quite normal and doing more sealing will not have any effect on it. It will darken for awhile and then reach a point where it will stabilise. I would not worry about it getting too dark.
Regards Graeme
