I forgot to mention... have completed two red cedar long case clocks and have just started another clock of all wooden gears --but that has to wait until I play with my Hercus ( Hercus 260 atm)

Sounds like you're going to enjoy your retirement "grandad".
I haven't touched a lathe since the Naval apprectice workshops in the old WW2 hangers at HMAS Nirimba.
