G'Day from NSW
Hey guys, the names Mitch.
Im 19 years old, from Appin NSW and have been turning with wood since i was about 12.
It all started one Christmas holidays where i was introduced to a family friend who asked if i wanted to learn how to turn.
I quickly agreed and spent about 4 weeks every day learning from him.
Fred lent me his mini carbatec lathe and i managed to clean out an old garden shed down the back and set it up in there.
I continued to hone my skill on the mini lathe, making spinning tops, pens, bottlestoppers etc.
The following christmas my parents bought me a Hare and forbes wood lathe which i still use to this day.
I started to slack off a bit when i got my apprenticeship at the age of 16 as a fitter machinist but recently, in my 4th year i have started right back up again to the excitement of my family.
I have also started to carve burl bowls recently and am looking at getting into a few different markets and hopefully i can pay for my hobby.
After looking around here for a while i thought i would join as i hope to extend on my knowledge and hopefully one day i will be able to pass this great hobby onto another young bloke.
Cheers guys, Mitch
