    Default How to lighten timber

    Dear Woodworkers

I have an old cedar cabinet that I attempted to lightly sand and varnish. Unfortunately I sanded slightly too much in one region. The result is that the part that was sanded too much is now red while the rest of the cabinet is yellow.

How can I modify the colour of the timber so that it becomes a lighter colour (ie from red to yellow/orange)?

Note that the cabinet was varnished in a varnish prior to sanding.

    Best,

    Prime

Oh bugger. Best fix, leave it alone and let it age for another 80 years or so.

Hehehe.... Just about hit the nail right on the head there Darklord.

About all you can do is to strip the whole thing back to raw timber and get it all the same colour. Not much joy in trying to do what has taken nature many years to get right.

    Cheers
